Essays were primarily used to aid in academic research in the past. An essay is a work of literature that presents the writer’s point-of-view. However, the exact definition of the term “essay” is vague and may overlap with that of a story, a novel, an essay, or even an article in a newspaper. Essays are usually utilized as a means to present a single viewpoint on any particular topic.
Essays are used more as an opportunity to communicate a particular idea or provide a particular interpretation on a topic. A well-written descriptive essay will captivate its readers and convince them to become a reader. This is because the goal of this type of work is to convince the reader that the concept or expression is both reasonable and plausible. It has to persuade the reader that the ideas/ideas put forward by the essay writer are correct. If these goals are not fulfilled the essay will not achieve its objective. It is therefore crucial that the essay writer can use the right techniques and tools to convince readers.
One such tool is the expository essay. An expository essay is one where the bulk of the part of the essay that is expository is already included in the thesis statement. The thesis statement is the most important element of an essay. It contains all details related to the subject or field that is discussed in the essay. The thesis statement is usually the essay’s main point of focus. It is therefore important that the essayist understands the best place to put his/her thesis statement.
Another tool that essay writers can use is the metatheoretic introduction. Metatheoretic introductions are a short essay concerning the same literary work – in this case the essay on The Great Gatsby. The essays about The Great Gatsby, unlike other literary works are composed as essays concerning the literary work that took place in the present-day USA. The essay about The Great Gatsby differs from American literature in that it concerns a literary work that was written in the USA during the 19th century.
Charles Lamb is usually credited with being the first individual to apply the concept of metatheoretic introductions to essays. The idea was also enabled by other authors who were part of the same circle as Lamb. Charles Lamb is generally credited as the first person to introduce the idea to the public. Henry Wade and Anna Blumenstien are two other essayists who have used the phrase “metatheoretic intro”
A number of things can be said with regard to the question of whether or not essayists are actually essay writers. First, most essays we write don’t conform to any standard format. The character of the writer can create essays that are different. There are literary criticism essays that focus on the novel as a literary style, literary criticism of short stories and even political essays. These essays tend to be more political than reviews of books. It is not surprising then that a lot of contemporary essayists haven’t written any work that has been reviewed in a literary journal.
Charles Lamb may be the first to have coined the term but he didn’t invent the term. He did however invent the phrase “essay writing” and was the first to employ it in his Essays. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was another individual who popularized “essay writing” however he didn’t invent the term. Louis Sullivan and Edward Sapir were two other essayists who popularized “essay writing”. John Taylor, Henry Steele Adams and Oliver Wendell Holmes all used “essay writing” in their writings. Other essayists have not used the term. However, some have used it with derision.
His Parry’s Essay Concerning Man is among Montaigne’s most well-known essays. The Parry’s essay comprises ninety-eight pages and is written in the main thesis of his essay which is that humans are animals. Montaigne claims that the human being is an animal because he is a violent, aggressive, and egoistic person and because he doesn’t care about his basic needs. This essay may be similar to the thesis of the book The Review of the Essays of Jean de la Rouchfoucauld, wherein the author suggests that all human beings are animals that must be cultivated. The Parry’s piece differs from the thesis in the sense that the author employs a totally different how to write a novel tone and style of writing. In the former however, Montaigne is often abusive to his audience.
